NI HEALTH MINISTER OPENS STATE OF THE ART CARE HOME

Filed under: Latest News - Posted on Thursday, June 30th, 2011 @ 5:54 pm

Brooklands Healthcare has raised the standard of residential care for older people with the opening of their new care home at Bush Road, Antrim.
Mr Edwin Poots Minister for Health Opening Brooklands Antrim
The £5 million, state-of-the-art care home was opened by NI Health Minister, Edwin Poots at the new development adjacent to Antrim Area Hospital. The 62 bed home has been specially designed with needs of residents in mind, and alongside general nursing and respite care, is capable of providing specialist intermediate and dementia services.

During his visit the Minister was taken on a tour of the luxury specification en-suite rooms with access to the central courtyard garden designed to maximize sensory awareness. He also took the opportunity to meet with some of the first residents and their families.

Speaking at the event Minister Poots said:

“It is fitting that I visit a facility today that is primarily geared to the care of older people, given that in Northern Ireland we have the fastest growing elderly population in the UK.“

“As life expectancy rises, the number of people affected by conditions associated with old age will increase dramatically.

“This Brooklands Care Home has clearly been developed with consideration of the patients needs at the forefront of the design.

“This facility will help improve the lives of people in the Antrim area. That is an achievement which cannot be measured in numbers.”

Speaking after the visit, Director of Brooklands Healthcare Therese Conway said:

“We are extremely pleased that the Minister has taken the time and opportunity to open our new Bush Road home, and see first hand the quality of care and innovations we have delivered for our residents and their families.

At Brooklands we go far beyond the statutory requirements, this facility raises the standard of care available in the Antrim Area. Our ethos is one of genuine, gentle, tender loving care. Both the physical fabric of the building and the care and therapy services we provide have been designed to create an environment that is a home for our residents”

The Minister also met with the first resident of the home Samuel Millar, his son Robin Millar, explained:

“Finding the right care for my father was extremely important. My father had lived on his own before going into hospital. We were told he needed specialist residential dementia care, but it was extremely hard to find. We kept hitting a brick wall. When we were told about the Bush Road development I was able to visit the home before it opened and immediately knew this was where I wanted him to live. He has already settled in, and for our family it has given us a better peace of mind knowing the quality of the care that is available in an area close to our own home.”

The new facility is the seventh home owned and operated by the Conway Group. It brings together the experience and expertise gained in more than 20 years working with leading healthcare professionals providing residential healthcare across Northern Ireland

    NEW HOTEL APPROVED FOR CARRYDUFF

Filed under: Latest News - Posted on Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 @ 5:11 pm

Merit Investments & Properties are delighted to announce that their proposal for a 60 bedroom hotel and adjoining family-restaurant at the site on the edge of Carryduff, adjacent to Brackenvale, has received full planning approval. The proposed hotel represents a £5M investment, which will bring up to 60 full and part-time jobs.

A detailed planning application was submitted at the end of 2008 and Merit Investments & Properties worked closely with the relevant planning bodies, including Roads Service and local Councillors throughout the planning process, to ensure that the scheme works for the local environment and the community. We took on board any genuine planning concerns raised during the course of the planning application and as part of our consultation, we amended the proposed scheme to include an upgrade of the existing Knockbracken Road South junction and the addition of a right turning lane at Saintfield Road, in order to improve road safety for all road users.

The proposed hotel is similar in design to the Premier Inn’s Lisburn hotel on the Hillsborough Road, which Merit competed in 2009 and which has been extremely successful.

Jarlath Conway said. “We are delighted to receive planning permission for the scheme. Our planning application very clearly stood on its own merits and Planning Service simply used proper planning criteria to come to a correct and positive conclusion”.

He added “We believe that the economic benefits, jobs created and the tourism opportunities this hotel will create, will be of significant benefit to the area. It will also help increase the number of business and leisure visitors to the local area and indeed many local businesses that we have spoken to, have warmly welcomed the potential investment that this creates.”

Filed under: Latest News - Posted on Friday, February 18th, 2011 @ 6:33 pm

Rensburg Sheppards Investment Management Ltd has relocated to new state of the art offices at one of Belfast’s newest city centre office schemes.

Rensburg Sheppards have taken the entirety of the 5th floor within the prestigious Centrepoint building which is also home to the Financial Times, Irish Nationwide Building Society and RTE.

“From the initial viewing of the property, the entire Rensburg Sheppards team were so impressed with the quality of building, its superb location and aspect that their decision to relocate to Centrepoint was virtually made ” commented Ian Duddy of Colliers International, the joint letting agent of the property.

Des Taggart of Conway Group said “ We are delighted to add such another high calibre tenant to an already impressive line-up. Our goal was to create a landmark building, providing Grade A office accommodation which would appeal to the needs of blue chip tenants and we believe we have succeeded in delivering same at Centrepoint”. Centrepoint is a 36,000 sq ft development providing accommodation over ground and ten upper floors located in the heart of Belfast’s prime office district, at the corner of Bedford Street and Ormeau Avenue.

MAJOR NEW FOOD STORE PROPOSED FOR MAGHERAFELT TOWN

Filed under: Latest News - Posted on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010 @ 4:50 pm

The Conway Group is planning to bring a major new food store to its home town for the first time. The proposed development has an investment value of £17M and could create over 200 jobs during construction and on completion.

Merit Investment and Properties has submitted a full planning application for the development, which would be located on an 13 acre site on the Moneymore Road, within the town’s development limit, and will include a modern stand alone 69,000 sq ft food store, a six pump petrol filling station, car parking for 400 cars, and an on site car wash facility. Construction is expected to take one year to complete on receipt of planning approval.

As part of the proposed plans, Merit will fund the creation of a new roundabout at the junction of the A31 Moneymore Road and Coolshinney Road in order to improve access and provide a traffic management and calming solution on the main southern approach to the town, an area close to local schools. The plans also connect to the existing shared pedestrian and cycle network, ensuring that the proposed store is accessible by foot or bicycle, as well as cars.

Jarlath Conway, Director at Conway Group said, “Magherafelt currently has no representation from any of the main food store operators and a lot of food and grocery sales are leaking to nearby towns as shoppers travel to Cookstown and Ballymena for big name food retailers. Therefore this proposed food store will greatly enhance the town’s retail offering and should encourage further investment.

“As a local company we are keen to promote local schemes such as this which will make Magherafelt an attractive retail destination and complement the existing retail offering in the town centre and local shopping centre. We are in discussions with a number of major food operators who are keen to bring their brands to the area, and we expect to make further announcements later this year.”

Merit is working with Architects and Planning Consultants, Ostick & Williams, Belfast and Roads Consultant, RPS Group

Plans for a proposed 120 bed Premier Inn hotel and 200 seater family restaurant in the centre of Newry were submitted for planning approval, it was revealed today.
A planning application has been submitted by Merit Investment and Properties, part of the Conway Group, for the first phase of a comprehensive mixed used regeneration scheme on the former ATS Garage site at Downshire Road, Newry.

The application represents a private sector investment value of £12 million and could be completed within eighteen months of receiving planning approval. The proposed scheme, which also includes plans for a 22,000 square foot landmark office accommodation, represents the first phase of a larger mixed use redevelopment scheme at this prestigious brownfield city centre location adjacent to the Newry River.
Jarlath Conway, Director at the Conway Group, said: “We have worked with Whitbread on the development of Lisburn’s first ever hotel which is set to open in September, in addition to other hotel opportunities throughout the country, and are therefore very familiar with the type of scheme, format and location which has worked successfully for them. We are confident that the proposed plans for the hotel and restaurant in Newry offers a great opportunity for the local area in terms of bringing a high quality hotel operator to the area which will provide local jobs and a boost to the local economy and tourism industry.?
Newry and Mourne District Council’s Mayor, John Feehan, has welcomed the proposed £12m investment, which will create up to 80 new full and part-time jobs when built, in addition to much needed construction jobs during the building phase:

“The City of Newry is ripe for this level of investment and development and the fact that a major UK hotel chain is keen to invest in this area illustrates how far Newry has progressed in recent years. A new hotel of this standard will represent a significant investment in the local economy, and the local jobs which would be created are also very welcome.?
Mark Anderson, Commercial & Property Director at Whitbread, owners of Premier Inn, added: “Premier Inn is keen to continue investing in Northern Ireland and introduce hotels that offer excellent value for money in key towns and cities across the region. Newry provides a very attractive opportunity for Premier Inn to develop hospitality accommodation for both business and tourism and we are fully committed to this proposed new site.?
Belfast-based Planning Consultancy, TSA Planning, is the planning agent for the scheme which has been prepared by JNP Architects.

Premier Inn currently has four hotels operating in Northern Ireland with a fifth, constructed by Conway Group due to open in September, as Lisburn’s first Hotel.
