The Conway Group’s construction division embraces two separate companies –
Merit Construction (NI) Ltd and PJ Conway (Contractors) Ltd.

Both have developed and expanded to become major specialist construction companies.
The Group have in the past, undertaken major “package deal” arrangements and have completed two of the biggest Housing Association schemes in the province, a £5 million scheme in Bangor and a £4 million scheme in Glengormley and are also involved in various design and build programmes.

PJ Conway (Contractors) Ltd specialises in public works – with extensive experience in new build social housing, housing refurbishment, hospital construction and refurbishments, improvement works and maintenance contracts. (See list of Public Works Contracts).

Merit Construction (NI) Ltd focuses on ‘in-house developments’ – that is, the design and construction of the Group’s own contracts on its acquired building sites.

Merit Construction also specialises in residential housing, office and retail schemes, nursing homes and hospitality / licensed premises. Merit has successfully completed a number of schemes where it has constructed bespoke buildings, for a specific client. Merit Construction (NI) Ltd is currently constructing a 10 storey office building in Bedford Street, Belfast. Merit Construction (NI) Ltd is also responsible for the cyclical maintenance of all Conway Group properties.

Some of the property developments undertaken by the company include the Olivia Centre, Glengormley, a 10,000sq ft retail centre costing £750,000, Brackenvale Retail Centre which incorporates 40 pump petrol filling station/supermarket and restaurant and representing an investment in excess of £2.5 million, and Charles House, a 22,000 sq ft office scheme in Belfast with a budget of £1.75 million.

The construction divisions of the Group are serviced by Hillhead Building Supplies who manufacture and supply a wide range of joinery products – including windows, doors, door frames and sawn timbers etc. specifically for company projects.
